Best Apps to Find a Great Campsite

Finding a great campsite can be difficult, whether it's just for the night or you want to spend a couple of weeks getting away. Thanks to technology, though, there are tons of apps to do research and find campsites with all the amenities you do—or don't—want. The Hall Mazda Virginia Beach team has compiled a list of our favorite ones.

Recreation.gov

Recreation.gov is a website and a mobile app where you can find many campsites under federal government management. You can filter by dates, locations, amenities, and more. Some campgrounds even include images so that you can get a feel for the campground before you make a reservation.

iOverlander

People who spend a lot of time on the road swear by iOverlander. This app shows not only campsites but also other services like dump stations, showers, water, laundromats, wi-fi, and so much more. The information is crowd-sourced, so you will find public land, federal and state parks, private campgrounds, and so much more.

HipCamp

HipCamp is great for campers looking for unique experiences while camping. Think of it like AirBnb for camping. Private individuals can become hosts, giving you access to gorgeous views and excellent amenities you might not otherwise get.

Reserve America

Reserve America has campsites from government agencies, private land owners, and so much more. NPS, NFSS, state parks, and local recreation area reservations can be made all over the United States from this one resource.

Google Maps

The most adventurous campers can leverage Google Maps to find secluded campsites not listed on the apps listed above. Those familiar with National Forest Service and BLM land regulations can find less traveled areas and even stay in incredible places at no cost. Just make sure you aren't accidentally staying on private land or camping in restricted areas.
