Mazda's New SKYACTIV®-VEHICLE DYNAMICS Promises Extraordinary Control

The first feature in the series will arrive in the U.S. with the 2017 Mazda6

"Zoom zoom." Those two words should conjure up one of the best series of car advertisements ever made, featuring gorgeous Mazda models speeding down the highway in elegant, choreographed lines. (The team at Hall Mazda Virginia Beach certainly loved those commercials.) The best part about the ads is how well they convey the power and precision of every Mazda model, and that's due in large part to the dedication of Mazda's engineers.

Of course, like any good engineer, the ones at Mazda don't like to rest on their laurels. They've created a new series of vehicle motion control technologies called SKYACTIV®-VEHICLE DYNAMICS, and we're very excited about them. Why? Because every Mazda model is designed to provide one with a sense of Jina Ittai, a term referring to the connection between the driver and the vehicle they're driving, and precision control is the key to that.

The first technology in the SKYACTIV®-VEHICLE DYNAMICS suite is called G-Vectoring Control (GVC) and comes from the unique idea of using the engine to improve the performance of the chassis. A world-first, here's how Mazda describes the system:

[T]he world’s first control system to vary engine torque in response to steering inputs in order to provide integrated control of lateral and longitudinal acceleration forces and optimize the vertical load on each wheel for smooth and efficient vehicle motion.

What this translates to is a reduction in steering corrections, even subtle or unconscious ones, smoothing out the ride, increasing comfort, and boosting driver satisfaction. GVC also allows for better control under slippery conditions, like rain or snow.

GVC is currently available on the Japanese Axela (known as the Mazda3 outside of Japan) and will be available on all US models starting with the 2017 Mazda6 when it arrives at dealerships later this year. In the meantime, test-drive any of our other thrilling Mazda models to experience performance and control unlike anything else you've ever experienced.
