2017 Mazda3 Gets More Standard Features

You'll want to experience this refreshed 2017 model

The 2017 Mazda3 has arrived with a fresh look that includes refined touches and more standard features.

The naming convention of the trim levels have been simplified. Drivers can still choose between the Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring trims, but instead of being further characterized by an “i” (denoting a 2.0-liter engine) or “s” (denoting a 2.5-liter engine), Mazda has equipped the Sport and Touring models with the smaller engine and the Touring 2.5 and Grand Touring with the larger engine.

Drivers looking for a manual transmission now have the option of including the Premium Package and i-ACTIVSENSE safety suite with the stick-shift Mazda3 Grand Touring model, both of which were previously only available in models with an automatic transmission.

Here, Hall Mazda Virginia Beach breaks down the differences between trim levels and standard features.

Sport trim

Just because it’s the entry-level Mazda3 doesn’t mean it doesn’t come standard with plenty of features. A SKYACTIV 2.0-liter engine paired with either a SKYACTIV-MIT six-speed manual transmission or a SKYACTV-DRIVE six-speed automatic provides 155 horsepower.

Other standard features include a Sport Mode toggle switch, a new electronic parking brake, power mirrors, remote keyless entry, push-button start, a 7-inch MAZDA CONNECT™ display, Bluetooth®, HD Radio™, Pandora, Aha, and more. MAZDA CONNECT™ can now be controlled by voice commands, touchscreen, steering wheel-mounted buttons, or the Commander control knob.

Feel like upgrading? Get 16-inch alloy wheels, heated side mirrors, Advanced Blind Spot Monitoring, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with the Preferred Equipment Package. Other package features include rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights, premium cloth-trimmed sport seats, and satin trim.

Touring trim

Build upon the Sport trim with the Preferred Equipment Package in the Mazda3 Touring sedan and five-door models. Drivers who select the Touring trim will upgrade to 18-inch wheels, Smart City Brake Support, dual-zone automatic climate control, Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry, heated leatherette front seats, and a six-way power adjustable driver’s seat.

The Touring sedan can be further updated with the Popular Equipment Package that includes a rear decklid spoiler, shark-fin antenna, power moonroof, Bose® nine-speaker Premium audio system, SiriusXM™ satellite radio with a four-month subscription, and overhead sunglasses holder.

If you’ve chosen the five-door model, it will split from the Touring sedan here, instead, it is being named the Mazda3 Touring 2.5 model. A SKYACTIV-G 2.5 engine produces 184 horsepower. A power moonroof, sunglasses holder, and illuminated vanity mirrors are also included here, but the Bose® Premium audio system and SiriusXM™ are not. You’ll have to upgrade to the five-door Grand Touring trim for those features.

Grand Touring trim

Speaking of the Grand Touring trim, let’s talk features. Both the five-door and sedan models are equipped with LED fog lights, an analog tachometer, Active Driving Display head-up display, black metallic trim, and your choice of almond or black perforated leather seats.

If you want to upgrade even further, go with the Premium Equipment Package. Self-leveling bi-LED headlights with Adaptive Front-lighting System, LED combination tailights, LED daytime running lights, navigation, and an auto-dimming mirror with Homelink will give you top-of-the-line features to set your Mazda3 apart from the rest.

The Premium Equipment Package provides the i-ACTIVSENSE safety suite with High-Beam Control, Lane-Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Mazda Radar Cruise Control, Smart Brake Support, and Traffic Sign Recognition.
